We all experience fatigue occasionally, but experiencing fatigue every day is uncommon. Chronic fatigue can be a symptom of a number of medical disorders, so if the problem persists, you should do more research.

Sleep apnea is one common factor in chronic fatigue. Snoring is only one aspect of the condition known as sleep apnea, which can also cause major breathing problems while you’re asleep. The long-term and short-term effects might have severe implications on your health as well as significantly affect your daily life and wellness.

What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

When your breathing is disrupted while you sleep, you develop obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a severe sleep disorder.

If you have sleep apnea, you can have breathing pauses while you’re asleep. Once your brain notices the elevated amounts of carbon dioxide that occur, you’ll be awake enough to restart regular breathing.

Your body may not receive enough oxygen overnight as a result, and any sleep you get is likely to be uneven and interrupted.

People with untreated sleep apnea repeatedly cease breathing while they are asleep, often hundreds of times. You can have a night where you wake up gasping for oxygen and coughing, which leaves you exhausted from a less comfortable sleep cycle.

As a result, you might lack concentration during the day, feel agitated and angry, and be more likely to nod off when engaging in regular activities like watching or reading. Anyone, even children, can develop sleep apnea at any age. Age, weight, allergies in the family, and sinus issues are all risk factors.

What causes Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

When your throat’s back muscles relax, this occurs. These muscles support the tongue, tonsils, side walls of the throat, and the triangular piece of tissue that hangs from the soft palate (the uvula).

Your airway closes or narrows as you breathe in when the muscles relax. Your blood’s oxygen concentration may decrease if you don’t obtain enough air. When your brain detects that you are having trouble breathing, it briefly wakes you up so that you can restore your airway. Usually, you don’t remember this awakening since it is fleeting. Perhaps you’ll choke, snort, or gasp.

Alborzi Orthodontics Can Help You Ditch the CPAP Machine.

If you have previously received a sleep apnea diagnosis, you might already be dealing with the discomfort of a CPAP machine. The loud machine probably keeps you and anybody else in the space awake, creating an issue. Aside from the loudness, having a CPAP machine limits your sleeping options to being near the loud machine while wearing an uncomfortable cover strapped to your face. This is just not a viable treatment option for many patients with sleep apnea!

Dr. Alborzi and her staff will identify and address the root causes of your sleep apnea so you can enjoy uninterrupted, deep sleep free from the use of a CPAP machine.
