We all have some kind of event in our lives. Whether it’s a family reunion, an office meeting, or maybe even just a casual get-together at home, you can bet that you’ll be needing some kind of backdrop fabric to go along with it! Backdrop fabric is not only used to decorate rooms, but it’s also used to give your pictures the perfect feel and mood, especially if you use special lighting techniques or props to spice up your pictures!

Why use fabric backdrops?

Fabric backpops are a fantastic way to fill your workspace with colors, patterns, textures, and materials. As a backdrop fabric material that’s easy to use because you can simply drape them over any furniture or lean them up against a wall, they’re great for creating texture in the background of your space. It’s also possible to make interesting shapes with your backdrop fabric material by crumpling or folding it; this helps create visual interest when photographing people in the foreground.

Fabric backdrops are available from many different sources, including thrift stores, second-hand shops, retail outlets such as Ikea, craft stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby, home goods stores like Walmart and Target as well as specialty photography stores like New York City’s B&H Photo Video Pro Audio.

Fabric backdrop types and how to care for them

There are many different types of fabric backdrop material. The most common, though, is muslin cloth which is easy to find in most department stores and online. While this material can last for a long time when cared for properly, only using water-based paints on the surface can make it last even longer. To care for your backdrop fabric with water-based paints you will need… fabric cleaner, vacuum cleaner, brush or lint roller, soap and water. Clean the surface by spraying on the fabric cleaner then using a brush or lint roller to wipe off any dirt or stains. Next, rinse with soap and water before drying. If there are still stubborn stains use stain remover then rinse again with soap and water before drying. Remember that these backdrops are expensive so be sure to protect them!

Places where you can buy fabric backdrops online

Fabric is an excellent material for backdrops in photography because it can be used to diffuse light without creating hotspots, which can cause unattractive glare. It’s also lightweight, making it easy to transport, and is generally less expensive than using paper or muslin. There are many places where you can find backdrop fabric. You may purchase online, at a fabric store, a theater supply store, or at a local art supply store. Fabrics come in different weights and finishes (e.g., matte), so make sure to do your research before purchasing any materials.

First thing you’ll need is some type of support system to hang the fabric from while taking photos–check out our blog post on how we use command hooks!

How to sew your own backdrop

One of the best ways to create a fun backdrop for your photoshoot is with fabric. However, you can’t just throw any old cloth up on the wall. You’ll need a material that has enough stiffness and stability, such as a muslin or polyester cotton canvas. So, where do you find it? There are lots of fabric retailers online that offer these materials (we have an affiliate link below). But what about if you want some backdrop fabric material offline? That’s where we come in!
